Pair of Swedish Midcentury Wall Lamps in Brass and Glass

€4.500 for the pair

Pair of Wall Lamps in Brass and Opaline Glass by Hans-Agne Jakobsson, Sweden, 1950s Elegant pair of Swedish wall lamps designed and manufactured by Hans-Agne Jakobsson circa 1950. Combining warm brass with generously proportioned frosted opaline glass, the lamps have a restrained yet highly distinctive character typical of early Scandinavian mid-century lighting. Each lamp features a broad opaline glass shade concealing two light sources. The softly frosted glass diffuses the illumination across its entire surface, transforming the shade into a warm, evenly glowing plane of light rather than exposing the bulbs directly. The glass is secured by small brass screws, a simple but beautifully considered detail that provides a subtle decorative contrast to the pale glass. The minimal construction places the emphasis on the relationship between the materials and on the quality of the light itself. The broad, gently curved shades give the sconces a strong architectural presence on the wall. Their clean geometry is softened by the rounded glass and warm tone of the brass, creating a design that feels substantial without appearing heavy. Hans-Agne Jakobsson was particularly interested in creating atmospheric illumination through concealed light sources and diffusing materials. These lamps are an excellent example of that approach, using opaline glass to soften the light while maintaining an exceptionally simple overall form. Their understated design makes them particularly versatile. They would work beautifully as a pair beside a mirror, doorway or fireplace, as bedside lighting, or positioned along a hallway where their broad illuminated surfaces can create a rhythmic architectural effect. A refined example of early Hans-Agne Jakobsson lighting, combining Scandinavian simplicity with carefully controlled illumination and an elegant contrast between brass and opaline glass. Very good original vintage condition with light signs of age and use. Both brass fittings have a small cutting for the electrical cord, as shown in the photographs. Wiring: All our lamps are wired for EU standards. Unfortunately, we have neither the means nor the qualifications to wire them for US standards.
