Scandinavian Coffee Table by Stig Lindberg & David Rosén for Nordiska Kompaniet
€3.000
Coffee Table by Stig Lindberg & David Rosén for Nordiska Kompaniet, Sweden, 1960s Exceptional Swedish mid-century coffee table combining the work of two of Sweden’s most celebrated designers, Stig Lindberg and David Rosén. Produced for Nordiska Kompaniet in the 1960s, the table pairs a beautifully proportioned oak base designed by Rosén with a decorative enamel tabletop designed by Lindberg for Gustavsberg. The elongated enamel top provides a striking contrast to the warm, natural character of the oak frame. Its graphic surface transforms the tabletop into an artwork in its own right, while the restrained wooden base allows Lindberg’s design to remain the visual focus. The combination of art and furniture is particularly characteristic of the ambitious Swedish interior design of the period, when architects, furniture designers and artists frequently collaborated to create pieces in which decorative art became an integral part of everyday objects. David Rosén’s understated base provides an elegant architectural framework for Lindberg’s expressive enamel work, resulting in a piece that is both highly functional and distinctly sculptural. The generous proportions make it particularly well suited as a coffee or sofa table, while the enamel surface gives it a strong decorative presence even when left completely unadorned. A beautiful example of post-war Swedish design, bringing together Nordiska Kompaniet’s tradition of fine furniture making with the artistic experimentation associated with Stig Lindberg and Gustavsberg. Good original vintage condition with signs of age and use. One of the legs has a dark stain towards the end, as shown in the pictures.
