Scandinavian Coffee Table in Pine and Glass by Sven Larsson
€6.500
Scandinavian Coffee Table in Pine and Glass by Sven Larsson, Sweden, circa 1970 Striking Scandinavian coffee table designed by Sven Larsson around 1970. Crafted from solid pine and topped with a substantial glass plate, the table is a beautiful example of the robust pine furniture that became increasingly prominent in Swedish design during the late 1960s and 1970s. The sculptural frame is constructed from generously proportioned solid pine elements, giving the table a strong architectural presence. Carefully executed joints and subtle details reveal the craftsmanship behind the seemingly simple construction, while the warm tone and expressive grain of the pine bring a distinctly natural character to the piece. In contrast to the substantial wooden base, the clear glass top creates a sense of openness and visual lightness. It also leaves the construction fully visible from above, allowing the sculptural pine framework to become an important part of the table's overall expression. The combination of robust proportions, honest materials and restrained detailing is characteristic of the Scandinavian approach to pine furniture during this period. Despite its considerable size, the transparency of the glass prevents the table from feeling visually heavy. A rare and highly decorative piece that works particularly well as a substantial centre table in a larger living space, combining the warmth of solid wood with a distinctly architectural silhouette. The solid pine frame remains in very good original vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with its age. The thick glass tabletop is newly made.
