Mid Century Swedish Coffee Table with Elm Root Inlay
€2.500
Swedish Mid-Century Coffee Table in Elm and Elm Root, Sweden, 1950s Elegant Swedish mid-century coffee table from the 1950s, crafted in elm and distinguished by a beautifully figured elm-root veneer tabletop. The rich, swirling grain gives the surface an almost organic, painterly quality and makes each section of the top visually unique. The tabletop is framed by contrasting inlaid detailing, subtly emphasizing its elongated form and adding a refined decorative element to the otherwise restrained design. The warm golden and honey-coloured tones of the elm are complemented by slender, gently tapered legs, giving the table a light and beautifully balanced silhouette. The expressive elm-root veneer is very much the focal point of the piece. Rather than relying on elaborate ornamentation, the design uses the natural figuring of the wood as decoration, an approach characteristic of high-quality Swedish furniture from the mid-century period. With its combination of elegant proportions, fine craftsmanship and unusually beautiful wood grain, the table has a sophisticated yet understated presence. Its generous surface makes it equally suited as a traditional coffee table or as a low centre table in a larger seating arrangement. A beautiful example of Swedish mid-century craftsmanship, combining a simple architectural form with the richness and individuality of carefully selected natural materials. Very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use consistent with its age.
