Midcentury Swedish Chandelier by Luxus
€5.600
Rare chandelier by Uno & Östen Kristiansson for Luxus, Sweden. An elegant and sculptural ceiling light by Luxus, Sweden, dating from the 1960s. Eight opaline glass shades are suspended from delicately curved teak arms, all converging into a refined star-shaped centre. The shades hang on white cords from a matching teak ceiling cup, creating a harmonious composition of natural materials and graceful geometry. The chandelier combines craftsmanship and visual lightness, offering both function and atmosphere. Its form recalls midcentury modern ideals—organic yet precise, warm yet restrained. Whether lit or unlit, it becomes a striking focal point in any interior. The globes measure 17 x 18 cm (6.7" x 7.1") Wiring: All our lamps are wired for EU standards. About Uno & Östen Kristiansson – Swedish Designers of Light & Form: Brothers Uno (b. 1925) and Östen Kristiansson (b. 1927) were influential figures in Swedish mid-century design, known for their elegant lighting, mirrors, and furniture that fused natural materials with a modernist sensibility. Raised in the village of Vittsjö in southern Sweden, they grew up in a family of craftsmen — their father ran a furniture workshop that laid the foundation for their creative path. In 1950, Uno founded Luxus Vittsjö, a design and production company focused on lighting and interior objects. Östen soon joined the venture, and together the brothers developed a distinctive aesthetic marked by clean lines, warm woods, and a confident use of new materials such as acrylic, glass, and metal. Their work often blended Scandinavian restraint with playful innovation — from minimalist pine and teak wall lamps to opaline glass pendants and circular mirrors framed in leather or wood. During the 1950s–1970s, Uno and Östen Kristiansson helped shape the landscape of Swedish design, contributing timeless pieces that remain sought after in the vintage market today. In the mid-1960s, Östen took over their father’s original workshop, continuing production under his own name while Uno maintained the Luxus brand. Their legacy lives on in the quiet sophistication of their designs — objects that still light homes with the same clarity and warmth they did decades ago.
